January transfer window potential movers

With the January transfer window now open, some of the top players in Europe are being linked with moves away from their current clubs. Barcelona have already spent £142m on the signing of Liverpool forward Philippe Coutinho, but who else might be on the move from Europe’s top leagues?

Thomas Lemar, 22, forward at Monaco. Linked with Liverpool and Arsenal.

Liverpool fans believe Lemar is going to be Coutinho’s replacement, but currently, Monaco have not received any offers from Liverpool or anyone. However, he was close to joining Arsenal rather than Liverpool in the summer.

Monaco know what they’re doing when it comes to selling players, so it would be no surprise for them to hold on to Lemar until after this summer’s World Cup, where his fee could rise if he stars for France.

Emre Can, 23, midfielder at Liverpool. Linked with Juventus.

Emre Can has benefitted from playing in a regular position over the last 18 months, and although centre back is potentially his best position, playing there was one of the reasons he left Bayern Munich.

He has this tremendous energy and likes to break from deep, drawing comparisons with current Juve midfielder, Sami Khedira. He could thrive at Juventus, especially if they play a three-central-midfield.

Antoine Griezmann, 26, forward at Atletico Madrid. Linked with Man Utd, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Griezmann has had a disappointing season compared to previous years, but was close to a move in the summer before staying loyal to Atletico, who were unable to sign anyone to replace him before January.

Having not shown the form of last year, and needing a club to find 100m euro to trigger his release fee and afford his sizeable wages, Griezmann might have to stay in Madrid. Barcelona looked favourites to sign him before the arrival of Coutinho, Paul Pogba wants Griezmann to join him at Man United, but Real Madrid will be looking to spend big when they are allowed to in the summer.
